About Alicia
The Story Of Alicia Laverny
Self-taught Portraitist and Painter.
Alicia Laverny is a Spanish self-taught Portrait Artist born in Spain. She owed her technique in oil painting to her curiosity about learning by studying the best painters in history, whom she calls her teachers, Morales (the divine), Federico Madrazo, Joaquin Sorolla, and all the people in the art world who bring her ideas and teachings, although she has increasingly explored pastel, which she finds more direct, spontaneous, and provides the opportunity for “unrivaled delicacy”.

Where it all Started
Debut Exhibition, Benissa Alicante - 1992
In 1992 I began my journey through fairs touring much of Spain. My debut was in Benissa (Alicante). I soon became a member of the AMATA association in Alicante, touring the entire Alicante community, making commissioned portraits in pencil, pastel and oil, of people as well as dogs, cats and horses.
Elche (Alicante), was the inspiration for my work “Ironia”, set as it was celebrated in medieval style, between the Church of Sta. María and Calahorra. Made in oil, it has the peculiarity of having several vanishing points, as well as being represented by a large number of well-known characters from the fairs, including “me” painting. (Work acquired by José Ignacio Abete)
The AMATA association was expanding its fairs throughout various communities or regions, Murcia, Valencia, Madrid, Castellón de la Plana… where my name was recognized as “the Painter of Valencia” wherever I went. Invited by other organizers, I was in Alcalá de Henáres, Madrid, Ferrol (A Coruña), Tapia de Casariego (Asturias), Ordaz (Toledo), Les -Vall d’Aran (Lleida), ending in 2012 in Huesca, where I was the the only painter who had never exhibited and painted in the street, according to the town hall.
The stand had costumbrista paintings, paintings set in medieval fairs, scenes with domestic animals, parchments, maps and above all portraits in pencil, pastel and oil, as well as a catalogue. An indispensable requirement of the fairs was to elaborate the work or part of it, so that the public could see it.
"Ironia" Oil 81x60cm. Acquired by José Ignacio Abete from Pamplona.
Some of my acquired works are in France, England and Holland.
In the year 2000, interview Pepe Aparici for the newspaper “Las Provincias”, Saturday November 18 and Tuesday November 21. In 2011 I made an acrylic map (100×70 cm). Historical and documented compilation of the town and municipality of L’Olleria. (Registered in the intellectual property of C.V.). The painting that appears in the background was made by 17 of the painters and the drawing and direction by Alicia Laverny. Donated to the l’Olleria Day Center In September 2011, the association Amics Pintors de L’Olleria was founded, of which I am president, sharing and teaching two afternoons a week.

Portrait of Sheik Khalifa
In 2013, during a visit to my daughter in the United Arab Emirates, I managed to recover my deteriorated work, by accident in the Madrid post office and held there for five months until the claim of the Abu Dhabi post office. Now in the possession of my daughter because of the poor conditions in which the work was found (torn in the upper right part and wrinkled) it could not be delivered to Sheik Khalifa. Work done in pastel 110×75 cm.
Arabian horses at the Shahama Equestrian Club
I was also able to meet the Arabian horses thanks to the Shahama Equestrian Club, where I was able to make notes and drawings on the spot act and to whom I am enormously grateful for their hospitality and kindness.
This stay gave me another light, as well as other landscapes that have allowed me to continue with my work dedicated to the horse and that I am doing between commissions.
Among my works there is also a sample of gouache fans, the origin of names, a family tree, animation posters in colored ink and acrylic, maps of goblins in acrylic and ink, but above all portraits in pencil, pastel and oil.
With an extensive number of works including portraits and paintings of different themes and techniques, here you can see some of the most representative.
